SUMMARY:NH Cover Crop Series
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to get even more out of your cover crops\n  \nCONWAY\, N.H. — UNH Cooperative Extension is hosting a three part series for farmers in New Hampshire focused on cover cropping as a conservation practice. The series will start Tuesday 2/23/21 with a focus on dairy and forage cropping systems. \nDr Samantha Corcoran-Glaze from UMass Extension will discuss the newest research on nitrogen and phosphorus uptake by cover crops\, and how cover crop management practices affect uptake. We will learn about web-based cover crop selection tools and crop rotation-based cover crop planning for vegetable systems on 2/25 with Jason Lilley of UMaine Extension. The series will be capped with a fast paced lightning round on 4/1\, with both farmers and scientists providing 2-5 minute presentations. We hope to address many cover crop topics in this fun and fast passed lightning round. \nJoin us as we learn and explore this important topic together. Please register for each meeting individually. Pesticide credits are pending for the 2/23 and 2/25 dates. \nFor more information: https://www.morningagclips.com/nh-cover-crop-series/ \n

SUMMARY:Pairing Tarping With Cover Crops: Getting Both On The Menu
DESCRIPTION:Pairing Tarping With Cover Crops: Getting Both On The Menu \n\nTuesday\, March 23\, from 12-1 p.m. ET\n\nTarps can taste better when they are mixed with other soil building practices. Cover crops help keep soil covered\, maintain active roots\, feed soil biology\, and add organic matter through living plants. How can we use tarps to reduce tillage while adding cover crops? Tarps are being used to kill winter hardy cover crops\, like rye and vetch\, and when it is too late to get those cover crops in the ground\, tarps are covering bare soil overwinter in preparation for early spring. Hear from Ben Stein (Edible Uprising Farm – Troy\, NY) and Janna Siller (Adamah – Falls Village\, CT) on their cash crop and cover crop planning\, what fall management looks like\, and how they are setting up for no-till planting when tarps come off. We also discussed pathway management and how tarps are fitting in with different mulches\, from the living to the leaves.\n\nCost: Free\nFor more information: https://smallfarms.cornell.edu/2021/02/join-our-farmer-to-farmer-tarp-talk-webinars-in-march/\n\nWatch the recording here.
